THE VOLCANIC PIONEER

Of the 3 trees we photographed in the Pacific Northwest this tree, a Noble Fir (Abies procera) was the most iconic. When I say iconic I mean it in the sense that the tree has a simple elegant form, the shape and structure of this tree is really easy to fall in love with.

Goat Marsh, the forest where this tree resides is a forest like no other we’ve seen on all our tree travels. It’s a forest of dead straight 80m tall trees all around but a completely clear forest floor. It’s like an open parkland with hundreds of epic trees reaching for the sky.

Surrounding this forest is the lowland Goat Marsh then the steep hillsides of Goat Mountain and Mount St Helens. It’s a place that has a wealth of powerfully inspiring nature.
