A FUTURE VISION FOR TASMANIA’S FORESTS

As native forest logging is being phased out in some of the mainland states across Australia, there is increasing pressure for Tasmania to follow suit. What is the best way forward for Tasmania’s forests? And how do we make sure that efforts to protect Tasmania’s forests are done in the best way?

Our new report titled ‘A Future Vision for Tasmania’s Forests’ is exactly what the title suggests - a way to manage our forests so that we have the best biodiversity and climate outcomes.

However, there is increasing pressure from fossil fuel industries and lobby groups to open up Tasmania’s public forests for carbon offsets. Offsets are not the answer for forest protection as the vast majority lack integrity and only delay real progress on climate action.

“By relying on offsets, we allow fossil fuel companies to continue polluting. Offsets are not the answer. Protecting our forests for biodiversity and climate conservation is the best future for our forests”

- Dr Jennifer Sanger

We propose an effective new vision for our forests, where our valuable forest estate is protected and restored for the best biodiversity and climate outcomes.
