BIG TREE HUNTERS

The Tasmanian Big tree hunters.

"The Tasmanian Big Tree Hunters" follows five young Tasmanians on their big tree discoveries. They share their personal experiences, the joy of discovery, the loss of seeing logged and burnt giants, the celebration of protecting them and their optimism for the future big tree tourism economy of Tasmania. This film is five very personal stories from people who are out there scrub-bashing their way through uncharted forests.

We did not want to make an activist recruitment film that only offers a shallow and combative representation of our forests. Tasmanians are tired of only seeing our forests as a battleground between the loggers and the greenies. We specifically wanted to portray our forests as a place of exploration, connection and possibilities both economic and personal.

TASMANIA’S GIANT TREES KEYNOTE 60 MINUTES

This excerpt from BTH livestream is essential information about Tasmanian’s giant trees that all tree enthusiasts should be aware of. The keynote presentation goes into detail with historical content showing a selection of images and quotes from the 1890 when Victoria has trees just as big as Tasmania. Then Steve goes into the development of our Tasmanian Big Tree Register and the threats to the remaining giant trees. We finish up with by detailing our suggested amendments to the Sustainable Timber Tasmania Giant Tree Policy (2018) and out future projects.
